Welcome to MIS Cambridge Lower Primary and EYFS At MIS, we believe that every child’s educational journey begins with a strong foundation. Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is where curiosity, creativity, responsibility, kindness, and a love for learning come to life. We are delighted to introduce you to this important phase of your child’s education.
The EYFS is a magical time when children take their first steps into formal education. It’s a time of exploration, discovery, and growth. Our dedicated team is committed to providing a nurturing, safe, and inspiring environment where children can thrive. Our EYFS UK curriculum encourages children to develop essential skills, build their self-confidence, and ignite their passion for learning. We believe every child is unique and celebrate and support their individuality. Through play, exploration and hands-on activities, we foster a love for learning that will stay with them throughout their school journey and beyond.
We are excited to partner with you on this incredible journey of nurturing young minds, and we can’t wait to see the development and progress your child will achieve. Together, we can lay the foundation for a brighter and promising future for your child.
At MIS, children are encouraged to have fun, be kind, be safe, and be confident to explore.
Our EYFS UK curriculum, combined with stimulating indoor and outdoor learning adventure, allows children for positive, engaging and inspiring learning experiences. Our MIS Early Years aim is to give your child a first class start to life through planned thematic learning opportunities that cater for the individual child, helping them to meet key early milestones and thrive in and outside of the classroom.
We recognise that your child has individual needs, talents and skills, which we aim to develop through an exciting, personalized and stimulating approach. Encouragement is given to all children to develop their unique personalities and skills. In partnership with parents, we aim to promote the educational development of your child emotionally, intellectually, physically and socially.
We recognise what your child can do and we will build on this through different areas of learning such as:
1. Communication Language and Literacy. (cambridge English)
2. Creative Development (cambridge Art and Music)
3. Mathematics (Cambridge Maths)
4. Physical Development (Cambridge PE)
5. Personal, Social and Emotional Development (Cambridge PSHE- Social skills)
6. Understanding the world (Cambridge Science, GP and ICT)
This area of learning deals with communicating thoughts, ideas and feelings providing opportunities for speaking and listening skills. It also focuses on sharing and enjoying stories, poetry, rhymes and songs. It involves mastering or experimenting with writing through many hands-on activities, mark making, symbols, letters and phonics for Nursery and Reception or KG. The development of language will be central to the curriculum and at all times children will be encouraged to speak, ask questions, and share their ideas and opinions, thoughts and experiences. Through the opportunity to draw, read and write using a variety of media, the children will come to see themselves as effective readers and writers. Speaking, listening, reading and writing are crucial to children’s early development. Showing children the importance of language through fun activities and encouraging them to engage with a wide range of texts helps to ignite a lifelong curiosity for learning.
This area of learning includes art, music, dance, role-play and imaginative play. It gives opportunities for children to express, explore and experiment with ideas, materials and activities. The children each day will have access to creative materials that allow them to follow their own individual creative interests. They will explore and learn about colour, shape, texture, form and space. The children will be given the time to finish and complete work to their own ability. An area will be provided for role-play activities to allow children the opportunity to develop social, communication, visual and imaginative skills. This important area brings together skills and cognitive processes from across the whole curriculum.
This area of learning includes counting, sorting, matching, making connections, recognising relationships and working with numbers, shapes, space and measurements. Mathematical language will be developed through structured and free-play including number songs and rhymes. At an early age, it’s important to help children recognise how mathematics impacts everyday life. Through games and hands-on activities, we can introduce children to mathematical language, thinking and concepts that they will need when they start their primary education.
This area of learning is about improving skills of coordination, control, manipulation and movement. Physical development helps children gain confidence and enables them to feel positive about being healthy and active. The children will have access to both the outdoors and indoors to increase and fine tune their fine and gross motor skills. They will acquire knowledge and skills about movement, space, health and bodily awareness. This area of learning encourages children to develop movement skills through play, helping them to develop a positive attitude towards exercise and laying the foundations for healthy, active lives.
This area of learning is about emotional well-being and feeling good about themselves. It is also about developing respect for others, social competence, independence and positive attitude to learn. This encourages and fosters the feelings of security and well-being. This is central to the children’s lives. It underpins their well-being and attainment in all other areas of their learning and development. This area helps them to develop social learning and friendships, regulate their emotional responses and respond to others. It helps develop self-esteem and self-confidence.
In this area of learning the children are developing the crucial knowledge, skills and understanding that help them to make sense of the world. This forms the foundation for later work in Science, Geography, History,Design Technology and Information and Communication Technology. The children will be involved in hands-on experiences and will be encouraged to explore, observe, problem-solve, predict, think critically and join discussions. This area encourages the children’s natural curiosity as they explore the world around them. It lays the foundation for a range of different subjects in primary education and beyond, including Science, Digital Literacy, Computing and Humanities.
