Primary co-curricula program will vary throughout the year and the Homeroom Teachers will provide all details to their students. Students should try to take part in as many activities as possible. The unique backgrounds and interests of our faculty will be the core of our after school activities that may include sports, clubs, and the arts.
The Electives Programme (Secondary)
In addition to the MIS core curriculum, students are offered a variety of elective courses to provide them with a well-rounded and engaging learning experience. Electives will be held on Fridays during periods 7 and 8. Similar to other scheduled classes, attendance and participation is mandatory and will be assessed at the end of each semester with an Outstanding, Pass or Fail grade. In order to graduate, students must earn at least a Pass grade for each semester’s elective.

This elective is for the students with Chinese reading ability with proficiency level. Students need to be interested in reading modern novels. Students will read short novels “Taipei” written by 白先勇, featuring people who came from mainland China to Taiwan in the 1950s, and about their life in Taipei. We will also watch some movies related to the topic of the novel. Students are expected to read the story each week and encouraged to share in group. Students are also encouraged to discover and analyse novels and movies from aesthetic and philosophical perspectives.
In this course, students will be learning the language needed to do meaningful tasks. Examples of these tasks can include writing the lyrics for a song, conducting an interview with a famous person, or planning a trip. Students will develop their communicative competence by using Spanish language to communicate in real situations.
There will be a strong cultural component about different aspects of Spain and Latin American countries like food, festivals, film, music, dance, etc.
The course links with students’ knowledge of the world and includes cross-curricular topics such as respect for the environment, friendship or cultural diversity.
Participants will be assessed on their ability to complete these real world tasks by using the appropriate language as well as other strategies like cooperating with others.

Cost ($) 60 USD, which includes all necessary textbooks.
After Reading the Korean Literature book, the class will discuss the main topics and high points of the book. Characters, themes and other literary terminology. The course is designed to improve the reading, writing and understanding skills of literature in the Korean language.
Music and Art:
Students will be painting with acrylics. Students will need to complete around 6 projects.

Open to all Band students or any student that wants to learn an instrument. For drums/percussion I will take any band students plus 4 non – band students. For all instruments, some outside work will be required.
This elective is for students who love playing guitar or bass guitar. The elective is for everyone from beginner too experienced. Students will be able to choose songs they’d like to learn and we will also have improvised jam sessions. For this elective you MUST have your own guitar or bass guitar (acoustic) and bring it to elective class every Friday. This elective is only for people who are serious about playing guitar. It is not an elective where you just sit around and listen to songs.

Students will learn the disciplines and importance of strategy in our daily lives, approaching all challenges they may face. We begin with chess!

Learn from a variety of dance styles, including Hip Hop (old & new school), K-Pop (Korean), b-boy/b-girl (break dance), Popping (robot style), Jazz/new jazz, Bollywood, Ballroom (couple dance), Dubstep etc., with an experienced dance trainer. You get an opportunity to participate/perform on-stage in different school events, viz. Christmas concert, Talent show and more. So come to get some good exercise and great dance moves on Friday afternoons!

This elective is for Year 7 and Year 8 students. There will be games scheduled inside the classroom such as scrabble, chess, card, snakes and ladder, etc. and games outside such as ballgames and play.
The games are designed to improve the student’s physical skills and help their social development. They will learn self-control and understand others point of views. This elective will also help the students improve their thinking skills.
This elective is for students who are or want to play on the school golf team this year. We will leave school and head to a local driving range and practice by hitting range balls and improving our game in preparation for our golf team’s season.
($) Students will need their own clubs and pay for a bucket or two of range balls a week. They will also need to arrange transportation home from the driving range.
Objectives of elective is to improve passing and support skills, improve pace, improve fitness levels and work collaboratively as a team; while learning the rules of rugby. We will also work towards building a team to compete in a local competition

Kids Friendly Yoga Postures, we be looking at basic stretching advantages, and improved body awareness, with a focus on concentration and overall health and wellbeing.

Learn about the inner workings of PC’s, disassembly and repair. Also specific software skills – Microsoft office applications and basic access programming.

($) I will collect 40000 – 50000 kyats for a starter. I am not sure how much the ingredients will cost over the year (impossible to budget). But I will keep a receipt for all ingredients purchases related to the electives and whatever remains at the end of the year, will be divided accordingly…
Students to bring a baking tray, tea towel, container to bring their food home. More details will be given during the course as requirements may change depending on dish of the day.
This elective is only for the students who struggle in Math. This course helps the students to improve their math skills and learn the basic concepts.
Children are taught how to create their own philosophical questions. They then choose one question that is the focus of a philosophical enquiry, or dialogue. For example the question might be ‘is it ever ok to steal?
The teacher, as facilitator, supports the children in their thinking, reasoning and questioning, as well as the way the children speak and listen to each other in the dialogue. After the enquiry the children and facilitator reflect on the quality of the thinking, reasoning and participation, and suggest how they could improve; either as individuals or as a group (community).
The STEM with Robotics program was designed at the Carnegie Mellon Robotics Academy that pioneered how robots can be used in the classroom to motivate students and teach science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The quality curriculum uses real world problems to engage students and contextualize learning that includes robot stimulation software that enables every student to program using a virtual robot (Robot Virtual World©). It emphasizes the importance of technology and engineering by incorporating these disciplines into the teaching of Math and Science.
($) 250 USD per year *Fees to be confirmed once the group is assembled. They include rental of robot kits and all necessary hardware and software.
Students will be involved with producing this year’s MIS yearbook. Students will learn about what goes into producing a yearbook and will have input into its design.
ESL and Maths support
Some student might need extra support in English and Mathematics. If a student is designated by the teachers to either ESL or Maths support, they will have to attend that support class until the end of the first semester when his/her progress will be evaluated. If a student passes the exit criteria for ESL or Maths support class, he/she will then be able to choose an elective from the list above.
After school Clubs
After school clubs are optional activities which give the students an opportunity to enrich their learning and practical skills even further. The programme includes a range of sports such as Basketball, Football and Volleyball along with ‘Brighter Tomorrow’ charity group, Model United Nations (MUN) and other clubs. Sports clubs offer the students an opportunity to compete with other international and local teams in Yangon and Model United Nations members have a chance to participate in a local and an international conference. There are possibilities for other clubs based on students’ interests and teachers’ availability.
The goal of our Field Trip programme is to expand the learning process beyond the classroom by providing the opportunities for the students to make connections between the concepts learned in the class and the outside world. Students may go to cultural, historical, entertainment or business establishments in the local area or further a field. These trips are organized by staff members and may include parental chaperones. Most trips will involve some cost to parents and all of them will require written parental permission. School rules will apply during all field trips and students are expected to be good ambassadors for the school. Longer excursions in the secondary school will take place once a year and model programmes such as Week Without Walls.
