English as an additional language
At MIS, we are committed to meeting the needs of our students whose English does not yet enable them to fully access the mainstream Cambridge curriculum. The biggest educational priority for these students is that they learn the English language to a level that enables them to access the curriculum. This is more important than their learning the content of the curriculum for their year level.
The English as an Additional Language programme at MIS builds its curriculum upon the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) levels to help English language learners develop their skills alongside the expectations put forth in the mainstream English classroom. The standards, are organized by four stages or tiers of language development with expectations outlined at each grade level.
