Frequently Asked Questions

Our standard class size is 20 though in exceptional circumstances additional students are accepted.

MIS has 18 different nationalities.

Wearing the School Uniform proudly is a sign of a good attitude. The Uniform creates a strong image and a sense of pride and togetherness. It reduces any feelings of difference between students and encourages them to value each other equally. Black plain shoes are required to wear with the school uniforms. Black socks for all secondary and primary boys’ students, white socks for the Primary girls’ students.

All our staff is professionally trained and experienced. Many come from varied international backgrounds and educational institutions.

MIS has several facilities for PE, sports and performing arts. An all-weather pitch is available for outdoor games along with a covered court for basketball, badminton volleyball etc. Having both an outdoor and a covered space means our students can participate in activities year round. MIS also has Dance and Music studios and an Assembly Hall which are used for concerts and performances. There are also covered playing areas specifically for our younger students but enjoyed by all.

Primary classes have an assistant teacher who works closely with the classroom teacher. At every level from Year 1 to 11, students who require support in English language skills have access to our English as Additional Language support (EAL) programme.

Ages 3-5

Children follow the English Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, modified for our local context. The philosophy is one of learning through play to make sure the children are ready for the social, emotional and intellectual journey ahead. When appropriate they begin a carefully structured phonics programme to start them off as skilled readers and writers.

Ages 5-7

In Lower Primary the intense focus is on developing language and reading skills. The Cambridge International Education curriculum provides the structure for English, Maths and Science.

Ages 7-11

In Upper Primary students continue to have a single home room teacher for most subjects with specialists for art, music, Information and Communication Technology and Physical education. The English National Curriculum supplements the Cambridge approach and students take the Cambridge Checkpoint exams in Year 6.

Ages 11-14

As they start in the Secondary School students are ready to have specialist teachers for all subjects. They continue to have a broad and balanced curriculum and sit Cambridge Checkpoint exams in Year 9.

Ages 14-16

All students study for IGCSE in Maths, the science subjects and English (First or Second Language). Each student’s curriculum is tailored to meet his or her needs after a process of guidance. They choose a pathway that is right for them. This can include IGCSEs in a wide range of subjects.

Ages 16-18

Our core provision is the English Advanced Level programme which also leads to graduation with a United States high school diploma but we remain flexible, committed to meeting individual needs.
